About the Scholarship’s Namesake: Don Eisinger has been a Coach with the Barracuda Swim Team since 2013. Don also served as Barracuda Parent Board President and has been involved in every aspect of Barracuda swimming since the 1980’s. During this time, swimming has evolved with new techniques and training methods, and he has implemented new ideas and the program has prospered during his tenure. He has exemplified the YMCA core values of Respect, Responsibility, Caring and Honesty in his time with the Barracudas swimmers. He has mentored new coaches and been a role model to them as well. Parents look to him for information and guidance on how to make their swimmer stronger and he consistently communicates with them in a professional and caring manner.
Don has demonstrated true leadership and can be counted on to take on any task to help the Barracuda team, and the YMCA. For the past several years, he has chaired The Great Escape Triathlon which benefits The Barracuda Swim Team and the Jefferson City community as a whole. He is instrumental in the Barracuda Swim Team and the YMCA Aquatics Program. For these reasons and many more, this scholarship bears Don’s name as a tribute to all of his contributions here at the YMCA.
Criteria and Process:
Former or current Barracuda Swimmer (2 years minimum), with a plan in place to attend post high school education are encouraged to apply.
Applications should include the athlete’s years of Barracuda participation, intended field of future study and where they will pursue it.
Applicants much be in good financial standing with the Barracuda Swim Team and the YMCA.
Applicants are asked to submit a short essay of 600-1000 words and answer the following question: How did my participation as a Barracuda Swim Team member instill in me, the Four Core Values of the YMCA: Respect, Responsibility, Caring and Honesty.
Applicants should be aware that some or all of their essay may be used by the YMCA in promotional efforts in the future. Applicants will be asked to attend a swim team function where they will be introduced and presented with their scholarship award.
The Coach Don Eisinger Barracuda Swim Team Scholarship will be awarded annually each May. A committee of at least three members comprised of the Aquatics Director, An Assistant Swim Coach and a Barracuda Parent Representative and a community member will make the selection(s).
